Promoting neurodiversity-affirming care for autistic children: A scoping review

The purpose of this article was to better understand how neurodiversity-affirming care is being used or not being used in the areas of education, health and social care.

This article describes ways that professionals can support neurodiversity-affirming care for autistic children such as through adapting the environment to include the interests of the autistic child, supporting neurotypical peers to interact with autistic children, and being flexible in how autistic children learn in classrooms.

Navigating racism, stigma, and autism services: A scoping review of the lived experiences of racially and ethnically minoritized families.

The purpose of this article was to collate research on the lived experiences of Autistic children and families from racially and ethnically minoritized backgrounds to inform more culturally attuned education and social care practice.

This article suggests that families thrive when they are provided opportunities to learn about autism and available resources, can advocate for their child and others, access services from providers they trusted, and have their Autistic child celebrated within their community.

Supporting the mainstreaming of inclusive practice and targeted support

All education settings inspected by OFSTED from November 2025 will be graded on the new inclusion strand.

Working together, we can achieve a rating of Strong or even Exceptional.

Data on Individual Support Plan targets can show year-on-year improvements in the provision of inclusive education. Let’s put together a plan to collect and analyse data that can be presented to governors and OFSTED to demonstrate excellence in achievement and plan future areas for development.

Data-driven progress insights

Involvement of students in the direction of their education setting is key to achieving student satisfaction. Neurodivergent students and students with SEND often find it difficult to engage with school improvement and measures of their own progress. We can identify key areas for students to be actively involved in the school community and how to promote engagement with inclusion initiatives.
